JESUS FASTED Matthew 4:1-11

Standard

We fast corporately at New Day Baptist Church every year in January for 5 days.  Why?

Well Jesus fasted.  And He was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for one reason: to be tempted by the devil. (Matt. 4:1-2). Whoa! God purposely sent the devil to tempt Jesus when fasting. Why?  The devil was sent to try and separate Jesus from the Father’s plan.

But Jesus was fasting.  And fasting breaks chains – chains that bind (Isaiah 58:6) and the devil knows it.  Jesus was hungry but He was hungrier for God and his glory than food. When you are hungry fasting, you are drawn closer to God.  You are in the Word, reading scripture and learning about Him.  During the time you’d normally be nourishing your body with food, you are nourishing with scripture. That’s the breakthrough.

“Is this not the fast that I have chosen:
To loose the bonds of wickedness,
To undo the heavy burdens,
To let the oppressed go free,
And that you break every yoke? Isaiah 58:6
